Nicoleta Caragea, founder of the R-omanian Team and the uRos conferences, December 31, 1970 - January 9, 2022.
With great sadness and deep sorrow we announce that our beloved Nicoleta has taken the lighted way of angels.
Nicoleta’s contribution to the R-omanian R community is profound and enduring. She started in 2012 by inaugurating the use of R in Romanian official statistics. Immediately , she saw the necessity to collaborate, so next year, she initiated the workshop “Use of R in Official Statistics”, which rapidly transformed into the well known international conference uRos with participants from all around the world. Annually, this event was planned and organized by her. This was also a starting point for wider international collaboration in the official statistics world on the usage of open source software.
Nicoleta was committed to statistics, both as a theoretician and as a practitioner. She was Associate Professor at the Faculty of Economics, Ecological University of Bucharest and senior expert at the Romanian National Institute of Statistics.
She knew how to inspire, how to motivate, how to empower the people around her. She will be forever irreplaceable and present in our hearts, lives and in the R community.
Rest in peace, Angel of light!
